Joël Lelièvre is Head of Scientific Operations within Global Health R&D Medicines (GSK) in Tres Cantos, Madrid. As infectious‑diseases specialist, he has extensive experience in the discovery and development of new treatments targeting tuberculosis and malaria.

He holds a Master’s in Cell Biology and an advanced degree in Infectious Diseases from the University of Toulouse, and earned his PhD in Chemistry and Biology in 2007 in collaboration with CNRS, INSERM, and Sanofi. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Malaria and Vector Research (NIH, USA), contributing to the characterization of key channels required for Plasmodium survival in human erythrocytes.

Joël joined GSK Tres Cantos as a Principal Scientist, establishing the malaria transmission‑blocking platform before moving to the Tuberculosis unit after completing an International MBA. There, he led scientific teams and major external collaborations, contributing to a strong portfolio of antitubercular candidates now progressing into clinical development.

He has also led major European initiatives, including AnTBiotic, Click‑TB and ERA4TB,  that foster collaboration between pharmaceutical companies, academia and SMEs to accelerate global‑health innovation.
